Switched on for 25 Years

JM Switchboards owners Sandy and Mary-ann McEachan were expecting "everything as usual" when they turned up to small marketing event held by JM Switchboards on Friday 12th July 2013. They were astonished when they entered their premises on Hartley Street, to find over 160 guests celebrating their 25 years in business.

Like a lot of start-up businesses Mary-ann and Sandy began operating from their garage but quickly outgrew this space. A new premise was built in the south end of Scott Street to accommodate both the increasing workload as well as additional staff. Since then the business has continued to expand and now resides in Hartley Street occupying over 1400m2 and currently employing 21 staff.

With Sandy, a qualified electrician, in charge of the electrical side and his wife Mary-ann running the administration requirements, the business has steadily increased its standing within the local community. Recognised one of the leading switchboard manufacturers in Queensland, JM Switchboards has a reputation for quality design, manufacture and installation of electrical switchboards and pump system requirements for commercial and industrial clients throughout Cairns, Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait and Papua New Guinea.

Over the past 25 years Sandy and Mary-ann have supported their local community through contributions to charities and local volunteer organisations, giving not only donations but more importantly their time; something anyone in business will know is a valuable commodity. They have also trained over 35 apprentices and provided jobs and security to over 150 families during their time in business.

Guests at the surprise celebration included staff, past and present, as well as long-time friends, customers, suppliers and local government representatives.
